Product Description

Maximum Vertical Tillage

True vertical tillage has become the go-to method for yield-boosting seedbed preparation. Turbo-Max is the industry leader in vertical tillage tools, especially for min-tillers who want to size and anchor residue without aggressively working the ground in the fall. It vertically cuts residue and fractures the soil to create a smooth seedbed for uniform seed emergence. Because Turbo-Max is a true vertical tillage implement, it does not create compaction layers, giving roots the freedom to reach nutrients and moisture.

Now with exciting new updates, the industry-leading Turbo-Max offers even greater agronomic benefits and operator convenience. Introduced in fall 2019, the NEW Implement Command™ system allows producers to control, adjust, and monitor their Turbo-Max from the comfort of their tractor cab. Implement Command is available on new 18'-35' Turbo-Max models.

New for 2020, Turbo-Max also features hydraulic fore/aft leveling and hydraulic rear reels as a standard feature on select sizes. Hydraulic fore/aft leveling allows the operator to easily adjust and level the implement from the cab without any wrenches or tools needed. It also allows the machine to be tilted forward for road transport or to quickly change between tractors. Hydraulic rear reels allow the operator to control the reel down pressure from the cab to adjust for different field conditions. This allows the rear attachment to be lifted in less-than-ideal field conditions, saving time spent cleaning mud out of the reel.

With working widths ranging from 8.5 to 48 (2.6 to 14.6 m), operations of all sizes have access to the benefits of vertical tillage. Each Turbo-Max is designed with two rows of coulter gangs, with blades spaced 7½" (19 cm) apart. The rear gangs offset the front gangs, splitting the blade spacing to 3¾" (9.5 cm) for superior residue sizing in one pass. This allows the Turbo-Max to provide true vertical cutting without the shearing caused by concave blades.

The gangs can be angled from 0 to 6 degrees, making the Turbo-Max a multi-seasonal tillage tool. In the fall, angle the gangs from 3-6 degrees to cover more residue, or keep the gangs straight to prepare the perfect seedbed in the spring. Hydraulically-adjustable gangs are offered as a standard feature on the larger models, and as an option on the smaller sizes.

Turbo-Max helps producers accomplish more with attachments like the Turbo-Seeder™, allowing producers to till the soil and plant cover crops – all in one pass. The Turbo-Seeder cover crop attachment is available for models ranging from 12' to 40' (3.7 to 12.2 m).

Product Features

Implement Command
NEW Implement Command™

Take command of your adjustment and monitoring needs right at your fingertips with the new Implement Command System option for select models of Turbo-Max! This system allows you to set, adjust, and monitor your Turbo-Max right on your ISO-compatible monitor in your tractor cab.

Hydraulic Reel
Hydraulic Reel

The hydraulic reel allows you to conveniently adjust down pressure or lift out of the ground with in-cab hydraulic operation. An easy-to-read pressure gauge allows for easy down-pressure monitoring from the tractor seat! This design maintains travel regardless of the selected down pressure. A hydraulic cylinder is used to preload down-pressure springs. When field conditions are not ideal, the harrow can be raised completely out of the ground.

Hydraulic Tongue
Hydraulic Fore/Aft Leveling

The hydraulic tongue allows the operator to perform fore-and-aft frame leveling on-the-go. Changes are made from the comfort of the tractor cab – no tools or wrenches are needed!

HYDRAULICALLY- ADJUSTABLE GANG ANGLE

Turbo-Max allows you to change the gang angle on the go to match it to field conditions. Adjustments can be from 0° to 6°. In the spring, a ‘true vertical’ 0° angle will produce the smoothest sub-surface ahead of planting. Set the angle at 6° when you want to bury more residue in the autumn.

True Vertical Tillage
True Vertical Tillage Machine

Provides truly vertical cutting without the shearing caused by a concave blade. With 508mm Turbo Coulters spaced 191mm apart, front and rear gangs are offset for an effective residue cutting width of 95mm.

HYDRAULIC WEIGHT TRANSFER

Transfer valve adjusts weight from center to wings, providing even, constant down pressure to the full width.

Great Plains Exclusive Maintenance-Free Bearings
Exclusive Maintenance-Free Bearings

Great Plains uses the exclusive PEER® TILLXTREME® Maintenance-Free Pillow-Block Bearings in its gangs, as well as smaller TILLXTREME Maintenance-Free Bearings in its rolling attachments.

Rolling Spike and Reel Rear Attachment
Rolling Spike and Reel Rear Attachment

Rolling spike harrow tines split Turbo Coulters to ensure thorough mixing of soil and residue and provide a smooth, uniform seedbed for optimum planter performance. The rear reel leaves the surface planter-ready by firming soil, removing air pockets, and eliminating clods.

19 cm BLADE SPACING
19 CM BLADE SPACING

Two gangs - each with 19 cm spacing between coulters - with the rear gang offset from the front gang. The gangs work together to size residue to an industry-leading 9.5 cm.

Fall Tillage: How to Deal with Ruts

Before and After: Turbo-Max® Vertical Tillage Implement
November 11, 2014

Stuck in a rut? Not for long!

With all the additional moisture during fall harvest, the conditions have led to moderately to severely rutted fields around the country. To ensure a nurturing, uniform seedbed and avoid yield-loss, these ruts must be removed prior to spring planting. Ruts cause problems for all types of producers, but they can become an especially unique problem in low disturbance no-till fields. No matter your tillage preference, Great Plains has a solution to combat a variety of field conditions.

Testimonial Video

“If all is well with the roots, everything goes well,” says Pieter van de Merwe from Kriel in the Eastern Highveld region of South Africa. The main principle he pursues in planning his tillage practices and the acquisition of equipment to do the job is to create the best possible environment for the roots of his corn.

Ron K., Eastern Pennsylvania

"WORKS GREAT! Used a Salford prior, but was not happy with the job it did. We rented a Turbo-Max for a trial comparison, and the Turbo-Max performed much better. It leveled the ground much better, it cut up the stalks much better, and we like to be able to angle the blades 6 degrees to close water ditches. We're very happy on our decision to buy the Turbo-Max!"
